STORRS, Conn. (Sept. 29) - The University of Connecticut women's soccer team lost a BIG EAST heartbreaker 2-1 to Boston College in double overtime on Wednesday night at Morrone Stadium. With the loss, the Huskies are now even on the season at 5-5-0 overall with a 2-2-0 record in league play.
Boston College came out attacking, peppering 11 shots in the first half to UConn's three. The Eagles got on the board first at the 21:11 mark with a goal by Nicole Reyes. An assist was awarded to Katie Gallivan.
The Huskies matched BC's aggressiveness in the second half, collecting six shots and the game-tying goal. Just minutes into the period, Connecticut charged down the field. Senior forward Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, N.M.) passed the ball to junior Kristi Lefebvre (Colchester, Vt.) who then sent it across the box to junior forward Kathleen Frank (Lansing, Mich.). Frank knocked in the ball at 50:12 for her first goal of the season and to tie the game at 1-1.
In the first overtime, both teams tallied one shot. Then in the second frame of overtime, Tara Luciani found the back of the UConn net through a crowd at 101:47 to give BC a 2-1 win.
Boston College totaled 21 shots on the evening to UConn's 10. Junior keeper Megan Jessee (Orefield, Pa.) had 12 saves on the night.
The Huskies will next take on St. John's on Friday, Oct. 1 in Jamaica, N.Y. Their next home game is on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1:00 p.m. against Georgetown. The game will celebrate 26 years of UConn women's soccer and feature a reunion of former Husky players.
