PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference honored three Huskies for their efforts in helping UConn (8-4-0) to their best conference start since 2007. Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) and Liana Hinds (Hartford, Conn.) received Offensive and Defensive Player of the week, respectively. Junior Riley Houle (Columbia, Conn.) earned a spot on the Honor Roll following a four point performance in Sunday's 4-1 win against Houston. The pair of conference wins places UConn at the top of the American Athletic Conference leaderboard with six points.
No stranger to weekly honors, first-year forward Rachel Hill collects her second award this season after taking home Rookie of the Week on September 2nd for her first collegiate and, coincidentally, game-winning goals of her career. Hill has not let off the gas pedal, recording five goals in her last three outings. This past week the freshman contributed the first goal in a 2-1 win over SMU before a stellar performance to earn her first career hat trick against Houston in a 4-1 victory against Houston. Hill will look to build on her team-leading nine goals this season as conference play continues at UCF this week.
On the other end of the field, sophomore Liana Hinds locked down a defensive core that has limited conference opponents to two goals to earn Defensive Player of the Week. Hinds provided a calm presence to the UConn backfield and her efforts generated a number of full-field transitions which resulted in solid scoring opportunities. The UConn defense has allowed only nine goals in twelve games thus far this season, totaling a .750 goals against average.
Riley Houle rounded out the accolades for the Huskies, earning a spot on the AAC's honor roll after connecting with Hill to assist on two of her three goals Sunday afternoon. Houle proved to be a menace for the Cougar defensive, winning several loose ball opportunities and placing several quality through balls for her teammates. In addition to her playmaking, Houle tacked on a goal of her own off a penalty kick to round out the scoring against Houston. The junior ranks second on the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for a total of eleven points.
The Huskies will return to action on the road Friday night at 5 p.m. against conference foe UCF.
