STORRS, Conn. – UConn women’s soccer freshman Danielle Gottwik (New Port Richey, Fla.) has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Oct. 6. The weekly award is the second conference honor this season for the midfielder.

Gottwik’s honor comes after posting a 1-1-3 scoring line UConn’s 0-0-2 week, which featured 2-2 draws at home against Memphis on Oct. 2 and Tulsa on Oct. 5. The rookie assisted on the game-tying goal for Samantha McGuire (Fishkill, N.Y.) in the 87th minute against Memphis, swinging in a corner kick that led to a header goal. Gottwik then handled the scoring herself vs. Tulsa, burying a 24-yard free kick to tie the contest in the 53rd minute.

Overall this season, the two-time league Rookie of the Week is fourth on the Huskies with four goals and 11 points. She is also third on the squad with 31 total shots, including 17 on target. She has emerged as a set-piece ace for the Huskies, serving as UConn’s primary corner kick taker and free kick specialist.

Gottwik and the Huskies take an 8-3-3 record and 1-1-2 mark in league play on the road this week for a pair of contests in Texas. First up is a match at Houston on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m.
