PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior goaltender Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa) was named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of Oct. 12, 2015.
Armstrong received the weekly honor after recording two shutouts this past weekend, one against East Carolina on Thursday and the other versus Cincinnati on Sunday. Senior Andrea Plucenik (Brooklyn, Conn.) was named to the weekly conference Honor Roll for her two game-winning goals in each of UConn’s shutouts over the weekend.
Armstrong recorded a total of eight saves over the weekend, three in the 72 minutes she played against East Carolina and five in the 90 minutes she played against Cincinnati. This marked her sixth shutout this season, and brought the Huskies overall record to 12-2 and 4-1 in conference play.
The Huskies remain undefeated, 7-0, at home and they haven’t allowed a goal at home since September 6th. Armstrong has recorded 52 saves this season for a .825 save percentage and a 0.80 goals against average.
Plucenik’s four point weekend earned her a spot on the weekly honor roll. The Brooklyn Connecticut native scored 90 seconds into the match in UConn’s 3-0 victory over East Carolina. Plucenik also scored the team’s only goal, the game-winner, in the 51st minute in its 1-0 win against Cincinnati.
The Huskies take to the pitch next on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. on the road against Memphis.
