ORLANDO, Fla. - The UConn women's soccer team begins postseason play in The American Conference Championship first round on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Memphis at the UCF Soccer Complex in Orlando. The game can be viewed on The American Digital Network.
The Huskies (7-8-3, 5-4-0 American) enter the tournament with momentum after defeating Temple 3-2 on Friday at Morrone Stadium. All-Conference Second Team member Vivien Beil (Jena, Germany) scored a pair of goals to vault the Huskies.
UConn ended the season tied for fourth in The American Conference with Memphis but due to head-to-head tiebreaker the Tigers are the No. 4 seed and the Huskies are the five-seed. The two teams matched up in Memphis on Oct. 8 and the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage early in the second half. UConn battled back with goals from Regan Schiappa and Yamilee Eveillard but fell just short in the comeback effort, losing 3-2.
The Huskies have had success in The American Championship since joining the league in 2013. UConn is 5-2-1 all-time and won two conference tournament titles (2014, 2016). Last season the Huskies lifted the trophy at Morrone Stadium after beating SMU in The American Championship game, 1-0.
The winner of Wednesday's match will play top-seeded UCF on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the semifinals. Follow our social media platforms to keep up with all the action in The American Championship.
