Schulmann and Houle Earn BIG EAST Nods

Danielle Schulmann

Nov. 3, 2011

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s soccer players Danielle Schulmann (Saddle River, N.J.) and Riley Houle (Columbia, Conn.) were recognized by the BIG EAST as announced by the league on Thursday evening.

Schulmann, a redshirt junior forward, was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team after leading the Huskies in points and goals on the season with 15 and seven, respectively. This marks Schulmann’s first BIG EAST nod after her first eligible year in a UConn jersey.

Houle was named to the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team and the All-BIG EAST Third Team after her breakout freshman campaign. The freshman midfielder recorded three goals and an assist to combine for seven points in her 1,230 minutes in 2011.

Marquette and Louisville led the league both earning two All-BIG EAST nods with the Golden Eagles senior defender Kerry McBride being named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and senior keeper Natalie Kulla as BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. The Cardinal’s sophomore forward Christine Exeter was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year as former UConn standout and assistant coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year after leading Louisville to being crowned regular-season divisional champs.

Both of UConn’s student-athletes honored return for the Huskies in 2012 and will look to continue their excellence as the Huskies will search to return to the BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies concluded the 2011 campaign with a 7-8-2 overall record.
