STORRS, Conn.- Senior midfielder Linda Ruutu was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Ruutu will now be added the national ballot as the CoSIDA National Academic All-America squad will be announced on Thursday, November 29.
The nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Ruutu, a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic honoree, played in all 19 games of her senior campaign and started in 18. This season she is third on the team with 13 points as she has scored four goals and dished out five assists.
The Espoo, Finland native has been spectacular throughout her career for UConn playing in 80 games and registering 47 points on 17 goals and 13 assists.
