STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s soccer team will host the University of Albany for the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium as announced on the NCAA Selection Show Monday. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Saturday will mark UConn’s 31st overall and third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Last season, the Huskies advanced all the way to the Sweet Sixteen for first time since 2007 where they were knocked out by Rutgers, 4-0, in Piscataway, N.J.
This is the third consecutive NCAA first round match that UConn will play host to. The Huskies advanced past Siena, 5-0, in the first round at home in 2015 and shutout New Hampshire, 2-0, the year before again in Storrs. UConn is 16-6-1 in first round games and 11-4 in first round games played at home.
The Huskies (18-2-1, 8-0-1 AAC) will square off against Albany (11-7-1, 6-1-1 America East) for the first time in program history Saturday. The Great Danes punched an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after claiming the 2016 America East Tournament Championship with a 2-1 win over Hartford Sunday. This is UAlbany’s second straight NCAA appearance, earning back-to-back America East Championships.
The winner of Saturday’s contest will face the winner of Auburn versus South Alabama in the second round, slated for Nov. 18.
