Three Huskies Chosen to Compete in the NEWISA Senior Bowl

 Vote for Schulmann for the Soccer News Net College Boot Award

STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut women’s soccer team had three Huskies selected to compete in the 2012 NEWISA Senior Bowl. Defender Karen Gurnon, midfielder Linda Ruutu and forward Danielle Schulmann were chosen to be on the Senior Bowl roster. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 2 at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.

Gurnon was a dominant defender and vital member of the Huskies during her time at UConn. The 2012 co-captain’s senior campaign included one goal and one assist, while helping lead a defense that allowed opponents only 1.95 goals per game.

Ruutu, a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic honoree, played in all 19 games of her senior campaign and started in 18. This season she is third on the team with 13 points as she has scored four goals and dished out five assists.

Schulmann, who is currently a finalist for the Soccer News Net College Boot Award, led the Huskies in 2012 with 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists earning herself a seat on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Schulmann, totaling 42 career points with 17 goals and eight assists, notched seven points on three goals and an assist in the Huskies win over CCSU which earned her BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, Soccer News Net National Player of the Week and ECAC Player of the Week.
