BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Husky softball squad improved to 3-2 after defeating Towson, 6-2 , in the opening game of the Florida Atlantic Strike-Out Cancer Tournament. The Huskies concluded the contest with 13 hits, while limiting the Tigers to just seven hits.
Senior hurler Kiki Saveriano made her fourth appearance of the season and improved to 2-0 after seven innings in the circle. Saveriano allowed one earned run and struck out an impressive 11 batters.
Connecticut dotted the scoreboard first following Kim Silva’s first homerun of the season giving the Huskies a 1-0 advantage in the bottom the second inning. Silva was outstanding on Friday afternoon going 3-for-4 at the plate against Towson’s Katie Lingmai. Lingmai was handed the loss and falls to 1-4.
The Huskies tallied three hits in the bottom of the third inning, including a three-run homer by Audrey Grinnell to push the UConn lead to 4-2. Grinnell concluded the game going 2-for-2 and tallying three RBI.
The Huskies will continue the tournament later this evening and face host Florida Atlantic at 9 p.m.
