UConn Wins Third Consecutive Game, Defeats Northern Illinois, 1-0

BOCA RATON, Fla.  – UConn softball registered its third consecutive victory with Saturday afternoon’s 1-0 win over Northern Illinois in the Florida Atlantic Strike-Out Cancer Tournament. The Huskies improve to 5-2, while NIU falls to 4-5.

Saturday’s matinee was a pitching duel with only a combined seven hits as Connecticut tallied four and Northern Illinois had three. Senior Kiki Saveriano earned her third win on the season after throwing seven innings allowing no runs and striking out six NIU Huskies. Emily Norton was the losing pitcher for NIU and is now 1-3 on the season.

The Huskies lone run came in the bottom of the third inning with junior Maddy Schiappa scoring on a RBI single by senior Marissa Guches. Schiappa has now scored five runs in seven games and Guches leads the squad with four RBI.

UConn will continue the tournament on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they face Providence in a nonconference contest.
