Softball Defeats UCF, 4-3, at Spring Fling

ORLANDO, Fla.  – The Husky softball squad is now 2-2 at the UCF Spring Fling following a 4-3 win over the hosting Knights on Saturday afternoon. Connecticut improves to 7-6 on the season and UCF now sits at 12-8.

Senior hurler Kiki Saveriano is now 5-1 on the season following today’s victory where she threw seven innings and allowed only two hits and struck out five, while UCF’s Shelby Turnier was handed the loss.

The Huskies, who outhit the Knights 7-2, trailed 1-0 early before Maddy Schiappa scored on a throwing error and was able to advance to third and reached home on a RBI by Andrea Huelsenbeck.

Connecticut followed this up with a three-run fourth inning on four hits to take a 4-1 lead. Freshman Lexi Gifford had two RBI in the inning on a double to right center which scored Valerie Sadowl and Lauren Duggan. Duggan also had a RBI double scoring Kim Silva.

UCF added two more runs in the fourth on two Husky errors but were unable to come back as Connecticut earned the 4-3 win.

The Huskies will conclude the UCF Spring Fling on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. when UConn faces Penn.
