Dubois recorded first collegiate RBI in 5-1 win over Penn.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UConn softball team’s bats came alive in Sunday morning’s contest against Penn at the UCF Spring Fling where the Huskies registered 11 hits en route to a 5-1 win over the Quakers (1-4). The Huskies, who fell to Penn on Friday, improve to 8-6 on the season after going 3-2 at the tournament.
UConn’s senior pitcher Kiki Saveriano was outstanding throughout the tournament going 3-0 to improve to 5-1 overall. Saveriano was the winning pitcher in Sunday’s victory after throwing 6.1 innings, striking out six, allowing only three hits and no earned runs. Saveriano, named to the All-Tournament Team along with Kim Silva, leads the Huskies with a 1.28 ERA.
Senior Marissa Guches notched her team-high sixth double of the season in the bottom of the second inning and gave the Huskies an early 1-0 advantage when she scored on an RBI single up the middle by Audrey Grinnell.
Connecticut tacked on a run in the fourth inning on freshman Jacklyn Dubois’ first career RBI as Valerie Sadowl reached home to give the Huskies the 2-0 lead.
The Huskies cemented the win in the sixth inning when they added three runs to set the final score at 5-1. UConn recorded four hits in the inning with Brittany Duclos registering a RBI and Emily O’Donnell tallying two RBI.
Up next for the Huskies is the Hofstra Invitational on March 16 and 17 when Connecticut will play Hofstra and Central Connecticut. Saturday’s first game is slated for 1:30, while Sunday’s will start at 11 a.m.
