    HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.  – The Huskies fell 6-5 to Hofstra on Saturday as the team opened the Hofstra Invite on Saturday afternoon. UConn is now 8-7 on the season, while the hosting Pride improved to 9-8.

    UConn was outhit 12-6 on the afternoon with six Huskies each registering a hit with five of the hits coming in the final inning. Senior hurler Kiki Saveriano was handed the loss as she moves to 6-2 on the season after throwing six innings and allowing five earned runs.

    The Huskies trailed the Pride 6-0 heading into the final inning and were able to make a late run and score five runs in the seventh on five hits and one Hofstra error. Emily O’Donnell, Jacklyn Dubois, Marissa Guches, Kim Silva and Brittany Duclos all scored in the final inning before the Huskies ended the opening contest with a 6-5 loss.
