FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Connecticut softball dropped two games at Fairfield on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies lost a close 4-3 contest before being blanked 5-0 by their intrastate foe. UConn is now 10-10 on the season, while the Stags improved to 10-9.
The Huskies outhit the Stags 13-12 on the afternoon with senior Kim Silva leading the squad going 4-for-7 over the two games. Lexi Gifford and Audrey Grinnell each registered homeruns in the first game as Gifford had a team-high two RBI. This marked Gifford’s first career homer.
Senior righty Kiki Saveriano (7-3) was the Huskies’ losing hurler in the first game after allowing two earned runs on seven hits and striking out seven Fairfield batters. Lauren Duggan was handed the loss in the 5-0 shutout following four innings in the circle for the Huskies and giving up three earned runs on three hits.
The Stags jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the third inning of the first game but the Huskies gave Fairfield a run for their money posting three consecutive one-run innings to end the game in a 4-3 loss.
The Huskies will travel to Sacred Heart on Sunday to make up their postponed game from earlier in the week. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
