    BOSTON, Mass.  – Lauren Duggan and Marissa Guches were outstanding for the UConn softball team on Wednesday afternoon as they led the squad to an 11-8 victory at Boston University. Duggan went 4-for-4 at the plate and Guches was 4-for-5 with each registering four RBI apiece. The Huskies improve to 14-13 (1-2 BIG EAST), while the Terriers fall to 9-17-1.

    Connecticut outhit the Terriers 15-13 on the day with Kiki Saveriano jumping to an 11-4 on the season following 3.1 innings and allowing six hits and three runs. Also seeing time in the circle for the Huskies was Duggan who threw the first 3.2 innings. Erin Schuppert was the losing pitcher for Boston.

    The Huskies, totaling six doubles on the afternoon, wasted no time getting the bats moving taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on three hits, including a double by Guches for her first two RBI of the day.

    Connecticut exploded in the third adding five more runs to push its lead to 7-0 on four hits and one Terrier error. Guches, Duggan, Audrey Grinnell and Maddy Schiappa each notched hits in the inning.

    Trailing 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Boston tallied a five-run inning of its own to move the score to 8-5.

    UConn was holding on to a 9-8 lead when they guaranteed the win with two final runs in the seventh inning.

    Kim Silva went 2-for-3 on the day with a team-best three scored runs and a RBI, while Schiappa finished the contest with three hits, one run scored and one RBI.

    The Huskies return to Storrs for their BIG EAST home opener when Connecticut hosts Providence for a three-game series beginning Saturday at noon. The two squads will play in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game starting at noon on Sunday.
