STORRS, Conn.  – The Huskies concluded their three-game sweep of BIG EAST opponent Villanova on Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 victory over the Wildcats. With the win UConn makes it seven consecutive home wins, while improving to 17-14 and 6-3 in conference action.

Junior third baseman Kim Silva started the game with a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second to give the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.

Husky junior righty Kiki Saveriano (11-7) controlled the Wildcat offense limiting Villanova to just six hits and three runs, one earned, in her seven innings on the mound for UConn.

Connecticut’s offense exploded for a four-run fourth inning with senior outfielder Jen Ward sending her third homerun of the season to right center. The three-run blast pushed the Husky lead to 6-0 and force the Wildcats to replace losing hurler Caitlyn Delahaba (13-8) with Kaity Sitzman.

The Wildcats threatened in the final two innings when they tallied three runs but was unable to fight back from the six-run defecit.

Despite the Huskies notching four errors against the Wildcats’ two, the Huskies were able to walk away with a victory after tallying six hits. Villanova fell to 25-12 on the season and is yet to have a BIG EAST victory posting a 0-6 mark in the conference.

The Huskies will travel to UMass on Tuesday, April 10 for a 4 p.m. first pitch. The two teams met last week in Storrs where the Huskies defeated the Minutewomen 5-3.
