MANSFIELD, Conn. -- The University of Connecticut softball team, which entered as a winner of two-straight, could not keep its momentum going on Saturday, April 11 against Memphis at the Mansfield Outdoor Athletic Complex, falling, 12-0, to the Tigers in five innings. With the setback, the Huskies fall to 12-23 and 1-5 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers improve to 14-20 and 2-5 in league action.

The game, originally scheduled to be played at Burrill Family Field on the Storrs campus, was moved due to unplayable field conditions.

Memphis' Jordan Richwood (7-11) picked up her seventh win of the season with five shutout innings of one run ball. Freshman righty Chelsea Eckert (3-9) struggled, allowing five runs in one inning of work. Senior RHP Lauren Duggan finished off the game's final four innings, allowing four earned runs with six strikeouts.

Taylor Townsend notched the Huskies' lone hit of the night, shooting a single into the left field gap and extending her season-best hitting streak to five games.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, grabbing six hits and taking advantage of a Husky error in the first inning. The team added three runs in both the second and third innings, highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Katie Brignac. The Huskies put a runner on in the game's final frame but couldn't bring her around and fell, 12-0.



The Huskies return to the diamond for a doubleheader against the Tigers set for 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 12 at Mansfield Outdoor Athletic Complex. Admission is free for fans planning to attend.
