Huskies Drop Two at No. 10/11 Louisville

LOUISIVLLE, Ky. – The Huskies dropped the opening two games of a three-game conference series at No. 10/11 Louisville on Saturday afternoon with Connecticut falling 3-2 and being shutout 8-0. UConn is now 16-18 and 3-7 in the BIG EAST, while the Cardinals improve to 36-6 and 9-1 in the league.

Kim Silva led the Huskies, who were outhit 19-12 on the afternoon, going 3-of-6 from the plate and one run scored, while Brittany Duclos scored UConn’s second run of the day and added a RBI.

The first game went to extra innings after the Cardinals evened the game in the bottom of the seventh inning before the home team confirmed the win with two singles in the eighth to end the game at 3-2.

Lauren Duggan threw the first six innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs but it was Katelyn Callahan (1-2) who was handed the loss  after allowing Louisville’s winning run.

The Huskies were outhit 10-6 in the second game with each team recording two errors. Kiki Saveriano fell to 11-8 on the season after five innings, eight hits, four earned runs and striking out two Cardinals.

Maddy Schiappa went 2-of-3 in the second game, while Silva, Duggan and Jacklyn Dubois also registered hits in the contest.

Connecticut will conclude the three-game series on Sunday with the first pitch set for noon.
