LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UConn softball team concluded its three-game series at No. 10/11 Louisville on Sunday with a 4-1 loss despite outhitting the Cardinals 8-5 on the afternoon. The Huskies, suffering their first conference sweep since Syracuse in 2012, are now 17-19 overall and 3-8 in the BIG EAST, while the Cardinals improve to 37-6 (10-1 BIG EAST).
Kiki Saveriano fell to 11-9 overall after throwing her 15th complete game of the 2013 campaign. Saveriano struck four Cardinals out and gave up five hits in six innings in the circle. Caralisa Connell (23-2) was the winning pitcher for Louisville.
Maddy Schiappa and Lexi Gifford each went 2-of-4 on Sunday to lead the Husky offense, while Kim Silva scored UConn’s lone run in the fourth inning on a single by Brittany Duclos. Silva has scored a team-best 20 runs.
Connecticut will resume play on Tuesday, April 16, when they travel to UMass for a 4 p.m. contest. The Huskies return to Storrs on Thursday, April 18, when they host Bryant at 4 p.m.
