SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The UConn softball team dropped two games on Tuesday at Notre Dame (35-10, 15-1 BIG EAST) in a midweek doubleheader. The Irish shut out the Huskies in the first game with a score of 6-0 before Connecticut fell in five innings, 11-1, in the second game of the day. The Huskies fall to 22-22 on the season and 6-10 in the BIG EAST.
Marissa Guches went 3-of-6 from the plate on Tuesday to lead the Husky offense, while freshman Lexi Gifford scored UConn’s lone run of the day. UConn, outhit 19-6 on the day, also had Audrey Grinnell, Emily O’Donnell and Maddy Schiappa register hits in South Bend.
Kiki Saveriano (14-11) and Lauren Duggan (5-5) were each dealt losses. Saveriano threw five innings, gave up five earned runs and seven hits, while Duggan went four innings in the second game and allowed 11 hits for 10 earned runs.
The Huskies were originally scheduled to host a doubleheader on Thursday against Albany but the two squads will now only play a single game which is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at Burrill Family Field.
