Dubois homers in loss at Seton Hall

ORANGE, N.J.- The UConn softball squad finished its three-game series at conference foe Seton Hall on Sunday as the Huskies fell 10-5 to the Pirates (18-26, 6-12 BE). With Sunday’s loss the Huskies fall to 24-24 on the season and are7-12 in the BIG EAST.
Kiki Saveriano started in the circle for the Huskies where she was handed the loss and fell to 14-12 on the season following 0.1 innings and four earned runs scored. Lauren Duggan replaced Saveriano and concluded the game for the Huskies throwing 5.2 innings. Casey Moses (2-5) earned the win for Seton Hall.
With the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, freshman Lexi Gifford was hit by a pitch for her 20th RBI of the season as senior Kim Silva crossed home plate. Connecticut ended the first with a 3-0 advantage when senior Brittany Duclos had a two-RBI single to left field.
The Pirates, who outhit the Huskies 14-8, didn’t trail long scoring six runs in the bottom of the first on five hits and one UConn error to go ahead 6-3.
For the second time in as many days senior Marissa Guches sent the ball over the left field fence for her sixth homerun of the season which cut Seton Hall’s lead to 6-4.
Freshman Jacklyn Dubois scored the Huskies final run of the game with a homer to left field in the top of the sixth inning but it was not enough for Connecticut to cut the deficit and the team fell 10-5.
Joining her teammates with successful outings at the plate was junior Maddy Schiappa as she was a perfect 3-for-3 on Sunday, while Guches concluded the day going 2-of-4 and scored two runs.
UConn returns to Storrs on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. contest against Boston College before welcoming Boston University to Burrill Field on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
