STORRS, Conn.- The UConn softball team dropped a tight 2-0 decision to DePaul in the regular season finale on Sunday afternoon in Storrs. The Huskies end the regular season with a 26-27 overall record and 8-14 mark in the BIG EAST, while the Blue Demons improved to 31-20 (16-6 BE).
Prior to the start of Sunday’s contest Connecticut honored six seniors as Brittany Duclos, Marissa Guches, Dana Hughes, Jessica McDermott, Kiki Saveriano and Kim Silva were playing at Burrill Field for the final time of their career.
Standing in her home circle for the final time, righty Saveriano (16-13) threw her 72nd career complete game and struck out six batters, allowed eight hits and gave up only one earned run.
Kirsten Verdun hurt Connecticut on every front on Sunday earning the win following seven innings pitched and striking out 12 Huskies. Verdun scored the winning run in the fourth where she opened the inning with a homer to center field. The Blue Demons notched a second run in the fourth after a Husky error.
UConn, outhit 8-4 on Sunday, saw four Huskies tally a hit in Silva, Emily O’Donnell, Guches and Alyson Ambler.
The Huskies will await their postseason fate as conference action wraps up on Sunday. The Huskies entered Sunday’s game in eighth place.
