STORRS, Conn. – In the American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the UConn softball team was voted to finish seventh in the league, as announced on Wednesday afternoon. The season begins on Feb. 9 in the Jacksonville Softball Tournament.
The addition of Wichita State to the conference makes the league total eight teams, with reigning champion Tulsa expected to repeat as champion with 48 overall points and six first-place votes. Houston (44 points) and USF (34 points) round-out the top three.
Under four-year head coach Jen McIntyre, the Huskies welcome six newcomers to the program – resulting in 14 underclassmen on the roster, including eight returning sophomores. UConn received 14 points in the poll.
Coming off a 17-31 (3-14 American) season, the Huskies begin their 2018 campaign with six early tournaments in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas. UConn’s first conference series is slated for March 23 at USF.
The home schedule consists of 15 games, beginning on March 29 against Wichita State, with league series against the Shockers, UCF, ECU and Houston. The AAC Tournament will take place from May 10-12 in Tampa, Fla.
