BATON ROUGE, La. -- The University of Connecticut softball team is set to begin the 2016 season on Friday, Feb. 12 when it travels to Baton Rouge, La. to participate in the three-day LSU Tiger Classic. The Huskies begin non-conference play with a showdown against Pacific at 12 p.m. ET at Tiger Park before squaring off against North Florida at 2:30 p.m.

Softball Falls to Cal St. Northridge, Tops Pacific on Saturday in Stockton
The University of Connecticut softball team picked up a split against Cal St. Northridge and Pacific on day two of the 2015 Louisville Slugger Invitational, played in Stockton, Calif. The Huskies fell to the Matadors, 8-0, in five innings before bouncing back with a 7-4 victory over the Tigers in the nightcap. UConn stands at 9-17 in the 2015 campaign and will round out tournament play against Grand Canyon on Sunday, March 22 at 1 p.m. ET.

Huskies Drop Final Game at FAU Strike-Out Cancer Tournament
Connecticut softball dropped its final game of the FAU Strike-Out Cancer Tournament with a 1-0 loss to North Florida as the Huskies fall to 5-4 on the season, while NFU improved to 12-4 overall.

Huskies Drop Final Game at FAU Strike-Out Cancer Tournament
Connecticut softball dropped its final game of the FAU Strike-Out Cancer Tournament with a 1-0 loss to North Florida as the Huskies fall to 5-4 on the season, while NFU improved to 12-4 overall.

On Saturday, Connecticut faces Ohio State at 9:30 a.m. and takes on tournament host No. 3 LSU at 5 p.m. The Huskies round out the weekend with a Sunday tilt against North Florida set for 9 a.m.

UConn is 22-19 all-time in season openers, including three wins in the past four seasons. The Huskies return 12 letterwinners from a season ago and welcomed five new members to the squad during the fall season.

In all, the Huskies return 77.4 percent of the total runs, 77.6 percent of the hits, 71.4 percent of doubles, 74.0 percent of the homeruns and 70.4 percent of the RBIs from a team that hit .237 during last season's campaign.

UConn has done battle with each team at least once on the diamond. The Huskies sport a 1-1 all-time record against Pacific and lost their sole meetings with North Florida and LSU. Connecticut holds a 1-3 mark against Ohio State.

On Feb. 10, head coach Jen McIntyre announced that Dominique Pinto, Alyson Ambler, Heather Fyfe, Lexi Gifford and Kayla Doty will serve as team captains for the 2016 campaign.
