LAFAYETTE, La. (February 22, 2009) - After a 6-13 effort at the Mardi Gras Classic, sophomore Julianne Towers (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) was named to the Mardi Gras Classic All-Tournament team Sunday. The second baseman for the Huskies scored four of the twelve runs scored during the weekend driving in another.
Towers had 10 total bases on the weekend with her six hits which included a double in UConn's first game with Kentucky on Saturday and a leadoff homerun in game two with Kentucky on Sunday. Her .462 batting average and her .769 slugging percenage was the best on the team for the weekend.
Towers was perfect from the field recording a 1.000 fielding percentage on 14 attempts coming away with six assists.
