Softball Readies for Five Games at Wilson/DeMarini Tournament in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. –
After picking up three wins in its opening weekend, the University of Connecticut softball team returns to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 27 as part of the five-game Wilson/DeMarini Tournament, hosted by Auburn. The Huskies are slated to face SIUE (11 a.m. ET) and Ohio State (3:30 p.m. ET) on Friday at Jane B. Moore Field, followed by a doubleheader against Texas State (11 a.m. ET) on Saturday and a Sunday tilt against Samford (10:30 a.m. ET) on Sunday.

UConn (3-2) opened its 2015 campaign at the Trojan Invitational in Troy, Ala. last weekend, grabbing wins over Kennesaw State, Evansville and NIU. At the dish, junior INF/OF Alyson Ambler earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference honor roll after blasting a pair of home runs and driving in six runs throughout the weekend, while junior C Jacklyn Dubois opened the year with a hit in five-straight games.  Sophomore RHP Kayla Doty earned a pair of wins in the circle, holding opponents to a .267 BAA in 15.2 innings pitched.

The Huskies own a 1-2 all-time mark against Ohio State and fell in their only contest against Texas State in 2003. Connecticut will face SIUE and Samford for the first time in program history. Friday’s tilt with the Cougars will be the first of 14 games that UConn will play against teams that qualified for the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

At 3-2, Connecticut off to its best start since the 2013 campaign when the team won five of its first seven games. The Huskies have scored first in three of five games this season (2-1) and have put runs on the board in their first at-bat on two occasions.

The Huskies are 6-4 all-time when playing in the state of Alabama and 0-1 when playing on the campus of Auburn.
