STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team heads to the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex this weekend to play five games over a three-day stretch in the Oklahoma State Hall of Fame Classic, beginning with doubleheader action on Friday afternoon.
The Huskies (7-12) look to bounce back from a winless weekend at the I-75 Challenge in Georgia, playing this weekend in Oklahoma City, Okla. at the site of the Women’s College World Series. Games will take place at OGE Energy and INTEGRIS Fields.
Five games against five different teams make up the tournament, with a trip to Texas after Sunday’s finale for a Tuesday afternoon matchup at North Texas. The complete schedule for the week ahead is below:
Sun., March 11 – Saint Francis (PA) – 11:00 a.m. ET – Live Stream
Freshman infielder Briana Marcelino enters the weekend as UConn’s leading hitter, recording a .300 batting average in the first 30 at-bats of her college career. She recently had a seven-game hitting streak snapped on Sunday at Kennesaw State.
In her first season of collegiate action, redshirt freshman Olivia Sappington continues to make an impact for the Huskies. She leads the team in hits (16), home runs (3), slugging percentage (.491) and on-base percentage (.388).
Pitching continues to be a strength for UConn, as a combined staff ERA of 2.77 is third-best in the American Athletic Conference. Freshman Marybeth Olson (3-4) has a 44-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 38.2 innings of work, while junior Jill Stockley has accounted for a team-high 47.2 innings in the circle.

HISTORY AGAINST OPPONENTS
UConn has a limited series history with each opponent over the next five days – Drake (0-1), Pacific (1-2), Oklahoma State (1-4), and Purdue (1-1). The Huskies have never played Saint Francis (PA) or North Texas.
In 1993, the UConn softball team under head coach Karen Mullins reached its first (and only) Women’s College World Series, which took place in Oklahoma City at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex. The Huskies won a 2-1 extra-inning game against Florida State on May 29 – the program’s only CWS victory.
3 OVER .300
In the last 10 games, the Huskies have three players hitting over .300 at the plate – Briana Marcelino (.364), sophomore Carli Cutler (.333) and Olivia Sappington (.313). In that stretch, the trio has accounted for 28 hits, four home runs, 10 RBI and 14 runs scored.
