Softball Loses to Cal Poly 10-0 in Final Game of NIST-Twin Creeks

    SUNNYVALE, Calif. (March 11, 2007) - The University of Connecticut softball team lost its final game of the NIST-Twin Creeks Tournament to Cal Poly, 10-0, on Sunday afternoon in Sunnyvale, Calif.

    Senior Holly Calcagno (Cedar Grove, N.J.) earned All-Tournament honors for her play. She came up with four hits including three RBI and a double in the win on Friday night over No. 22 California.

    The Huskies are now 10-7 on the season.

    Cal Poly opened the game with three runs in the first innings to take the early lead. Junior Allie Gendron (Amherst, Mass.) singled in the top of the second which freshman Caitlin Dombrowski (Delmar, N.Y.) followed with a single to advance Gendron to third, but the Huskies couldn't capitalize and the inning was over with a strikeout.

    Cal Poly blew the game open in the third with seven runs which in the end proved to be the final score as they took the game 10-0.

    Senior Krista Michalczyk (Salem, N.H.) took the loss in the pitcher's circle while sophomore Rachael Crossin (Fairless Hills, Pa.) got one inning of work.

    UConn is back in action next weekend at the University of Maryland Tournament in College Park, Md. The Huskies will face Robert Morris in game one on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
