STOCKTON, Calif. - The University of Connecticut softball team rounds out regular season tournament action when travels to Stockton, Calif. to compete in the 2015 Louisville Slugger Invitational on March 20-22. The Huskies open play on Friday against Grand Canyon at 2 p.m. ET before challenging Cal St. Northridge at 4:15 p.m. ET. On Saturday, the team squares off against the Matadors at 5:30 p.m. ET before playing Pacific at 7:45 p.m. UConn rounds out play with a 1 p.m. tilt against the Antelopes on Sunday.
Connecticut (8-14) opened midweek play with a split against San Diego St. and No. 17 Arizona. The Huskies pounded out 14 hits in an 11-4 victory over the Aztecs on Tuesday before being blanked, 12-0, by the Wildcats in a neutral game played in San Diego, Calif. on Wednesday.
This season, UConn has played five games against teams that qualified for the 2014 NCAA Tournament and sports a 2-3 record. In total, the Huskies' schedule includes 14 games against teams that qualified for the 2014 NCAA Tournament and also features five contests against teams that finished last season ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top-25.
The Huskies are 0-1 all-time against Pacific and have never met Grand Canyon or Cal St. Northridge on the diamond. In total, Connecticut owns a 13-17 record when playing in The Golden State.
Junior OF Alyssa Gardea leads the squad with a stellar .345 batting average through the team's first 22 games. Over her last five contests, the Corona, Calif. native sports a .471 OBP and has scored a team-high four runs.
Following the weekend slate, UConn will return to Connecticut to host its first home game of the season (March 26 vs. Boston College).
