STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut women’s softball team is set to travel to Fairfield University's Alumni Softball Field to take on the Fairfield Stags in a doubleheader this Saturday, March 23rd. The first game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. with the second game immediately following.
The series was originally scheduled to be played at Burrill Family Field in Storrs, but it the field was deemed unplayable after a winter storm hit the area earlier this week.
Senor Kim Silva was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after batting .615 with six doubles and an impressive 1.308 slugging percentage in a 2-2 week. Silva is the second Husky player to be named to the BIG EAST honor roll this season, after teammate Maddy Schiappa accomplished the feat during the week of February 18th.
Schiappa and Silva have both started the season on an offensive tear, batting .394 and .392, respectively. Both players rank in the top-10 in batting average among BIG EAST players, with Schiappa holding the number four spot.
Last season, the Huskies dropped their only game against the Stags in a 6-2 contest that marked their sixth game in as many days. This season the Stags hold an 8-9 record and have lost their last two games.
The Huskies will host their first home game on March 27th at 3:30 p.m. when they will take on Quinnipiac University before hitting the road to take on Rutgers in their first conference series of the season.
