STORRS, Conn. – After seven consecutive weekends on the road to start the 2016 campaign, the University of Connecticut softball team is set to host a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 30 against Bryant University for its home opener. The Huskies and Bulldogs will square off in a doubleheader at Burrill Family Field, beginning at 2 p.m.
UConn (11-20) opened American Athletic Conference play over the weekend and went 1-2 against Memphis. Senior OF Alyssa Gardea tallied a .571 batting average, two runs and four hits in the three-game series, earning a spot on conference’s weekly honor roll on Monday. Freshman Ally Hernandez extended her team-best reached-base streak to nine-straight games during the opening weekend. Although the Huskies dropped a pair of games, UConn still holds a 5-3 lead in the all-time series with the Tigers.
Bryant picked up its first win of the 2016 season and snapped a 20-game losing streak with an 8-5 victory over N.C. State on Sunday, which included a pair of home runs. The Bulldogs sport a 1-21 overall record.
Connecticut is 6-1 all-time against Bryant and own a 30-32 overall record at its home facility since the start of the 2012 campaign.
As a team, the Huskies rank second in the league with a .971 fielding percentage.
