STORRS, Conn. - UConn softball will look to continue momentum from a pair of weekend wins when it travels to Boston University for midweek action on Tuesday in Massachusetts. The Huskies (7-20) and Terriers (14-12) meet at 4:00p.m. ET on April 1 at the BU Softball Field on Boston. Click the link posted above to follow live stats of the contest.
The Huskies opened home play on a strong note this past weekend with a pair of conference wins over the Memphis Tigers. After two cancelled games against in-state foes Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac, the Huskies were able to rest up and prepare for the home opener against Memphis Saturday. The Huskies snapped a nine-game skid with a 4-1 win behind Lauren Duggan (Norwood, Mass.)'s complete game effort on the mound.
In the second game of the Saturday doubleheader, Lexi Gifford (Natick, Mass.) blasted a three-run homer followed by a Jacklyn Dubois (Mt. Vernon, N.H.) solo shot to ensure the Huskies took a 9-6 lead. Inclement weather forced the game to be resumed on Sunday morning, but worsening conditions ended the final score as it stood and gave UConn the victory. Katelyn Callahan (Queensbury, N.Y.) earned her first win of the season to improve to 1-4 with the win.
Gifford's four RBI weekend and .500 batting average over the two games landed her on the American Athletic Conference's weekly honor roll. The sophomore ranks second on the team with a .289 batting average and 10 RBI's.
