STORRS, Conn. (April 9, 2008) - The University of Connecticut softball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Hofstra Wednesday. The Huskies fall to 15-14 on the year, while the Pride improves to 25-9.

Hofstra struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. After a double steal put runners on second and third with one out, Courtney Oliver grounded out to score one runner, then Michele DePasquale singled to score the next run. The Pride scored their third run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly.

The Huskies got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Erin Burtner (Jefferson, Md.) singled home Danielle Del Ponte (Tewksbury, Mass.). UConn threatened again in the bottom of the sixth when Micah Truax (South Glen Falls, N.Y.) doubled and then advanced to third on a groundout. However she was stranded from there and the Pride went on to claim victory.

One of the positives that came from the game was the performance of reliever Kristina Tolles (Southington, Conn.). She replaced starter Tricia Sullivan (New Bedford, Mass.) to begin the top of the fifth and proceeded to throw three perfect innings, retiring all nine batters she faced.

For the game, Truax was 2-for-3. Jillian Ortega (Aberdeen, N.J.) also had a multi-hit game for the Huskies, going 2-for-4.

UConn is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Boston University for a 4:00 p.m. start.
