STORRS, Conn. - Award #2 for National Student-Athlete Day goes to Marissa Guches for her immediate, consistent, and positive impact in the classroom and on the softball field. As a transfer student, and Sammamish, Washington native, Marissa could have struggled adjusting to the change of moving to Storrs for her sophomore year.
Instead, four years later, Marissa will be graduating next month as a double major in psychology and human development and family studies with numerous accolades under her belt.
In the classroom, Marissa has been a six-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll student, has been on the Dean's List the last two years, has been recognized as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athlete, and been a three-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
On the field, Marissa has demonstrated significant skill as a starting outfielder for UConn, has appeared in 172 career games so far, currently leads the team in RBIs and doubles for the 2013 season and maintains an impressive .515 slugging percentage.
Coach Mullins has described Marissa as the glue of the team and her teammates have said she is both one of the nicest and most competitive people they know. Looking ahead, Marissa hopes to pursue a career in education following her time as a Husky.
