Three-Game Home Series with ECU Begins Friday

STORRS, Conn. – After snapping a four-game losing skid on Wednesday, the University of Connecticut softball team returns to American Athletic Conference action this weekend in a three-game home series with East Carolina at the Burrill Family Field.

The Huskies (14-24, 1-6 AAC) host the Pirates starting on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. Game updates will be available via live stats and @UConnSoftball on Twitter.

Sophomore pitcher Chelsea Eckert hurled a complete-game shutout on Wednesday in a 6-0 victory over Central Connecticut State. She scattered four hits and struck-out six batters in the win, improving her ERA to 3.85. Freshman Ally Hernandez helped the Huskies pull away with a fifth-inning grand slam, as part of a five-run, six-hit frame. Hernandez was 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run scored.

Of players with at least 100 at-bats this season, senior Lexi Gifford leads the Huskies with a .301 batting average. Gifford is also tied for the team lead with three home runs and second in RBI with 19. Junior Dominique Pinto leads UConn with 20 RBI.



Senior Alyson Ambler has been the strongest hitter in AAC play to this point, racking up a .400 average (8-for-20) in the first seven games. Pitchers Jill Stockley and Kayla Doty have turned in strong performances as well, recording ERAs of 2.57 and 3.05, respectively.

ECU (19-24, 1-8 AAC) enters the weekend series having lost 11 of its last 12 games. Karlie Smith leads the Pirates with a .315 batting average. Ciara Ervin has a team-best seven home runs, as part of ECU’s 29 homers this season (second-most in the AAC).

The Huskies lost two out of three games to the Pirates last season down in Greenville, N.C.
