STORRS, Conn. –
Rainy conditions have rerouted the UConn softball team’s plans this week, but the Huskies will be playing at Burrill Family Field on Wednesday afternoon when Central Connecticut State visits for a first pitch of 3 p.m.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the Huskies (15-28) will now host the in-state Blue Devils (14-22) on Wednesday due to torrential rain on Monday – making it necessary for extra field maintenance.

It will be the fourth-straight home game for UConn and the 10th out of the last 11 overall contests, dating back to the home-opener against Wichita State on March 29. The Huskies hold a dominant 59-8 lead in the all-time series with CCSU.

The Huskies were swept by ECU over the weekend in American Athletic Conference action, as they look to snap a four-game losing skid in midweek play before an upcoming trip to Memphis from April 20-22. Five home games remain in the regular season for UConn.

Freshman Briana Marcelino delivered an impressive performance over the weekend against the Pirates, accounting for four hits – including three doubles – in Saturday’s doubleheader. Fellow first-year player Reese Guevarra recorded a hit in each game against ECU.

In the most recent meetings with CCSU, the Huskies picked up a season-sweep in 2016 – outscoring the Blue Devils in both games by a combined 11-0 margin. One of the games was played on March 18 in the College of Charleston Touney in South Carolina.

The Blue Devils enter Wednesday riding a three-game losing streak, with Sunday’s scheduled doubleheader against Bryant postponed due to weather conditions. CCSU is currently in fourth place of the Northeast Conference with a 5-3 record in league play.

Senior infielder Brittany Camara is the team leader in batting average (.320), hits (40), runs (25) and RBI (22). Sophomore pitcher Peyton Silverman leads the staff with a 3.66 ERA, including three shutouts. Four players on the roster are Connecticut natives, including Silverman.

Junior pitcher Jill Stockley has accounted for 121.1 innings in the circle this season for UConn, accumulating twice as many innings as the next closest hurler on the team (Marybeth Olson, 59.2). She also leads the team in ERA (2.83), wins (6), complete games (10) and strikeouts (76).

The Huskies face Memphis this weekend in a conference series, beginning on Friday at the Tigers Softball Complex. It will be the first road series for UConn since a trip to Tampa, Fla. to play USF from March 23-25. Seven of the final 12 regular-season games for the Huskies will be on the road (Memphis on April 20-22, UMass on April 25, Tulsa on May 4-6).
