STORRS, Conn. – UConn softball returns to conference action on Friday when it hosts Temple in a three-game weekend series featuring a doubleheader on Friday and a noon-time game on Saturday. The Huskies (10-29, 2-9 The American) play host to the Owls (13-19 overall, 3-6 The American) beginning at 1:00 p.m. on April 18.
UConn will hope to continue its prolific offensive performance from a 12-1 win over Hartford on Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies tallied the twelve runs on seven hits, including a three-run home run by junior Emily O’Donnell (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and a grand slam by sophomore Heather Fyfe (Bedford, N.H.). It was the first career home run for Fyfe and number 13 in O’Donnell’s career, which moves her into a tie for 13th among UConn’s all-time home run leaders. Audrey Grinnell’s (Saco, Maine) current career total of 16 home runs ranks tenth in the program history books.
Valerie Sadowl (Horsham, Pa.), who leads UConn in nearly every batting category, did not record a hit but drew a pair of walks and scored a run in the Huskies’ win on Wednesday. Sadowl is batting a solid .352, which ranks 11th in the conference.
The Owls enters Saturday’s game after a 2-1 weekend against Rutgers last weekend in Pennsylvania. Sara Prezioso leads the Owls with a .402 batting average on 41 hits in 102 at bats. She sports a team-high 21 RBI’s and has belted seven home runs this season.
