Softball's Truax Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 23, 2007) - University of Connecticut softball player Micah Truax (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the week ending April 22, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Truax helped the Huskies post a perfect 5-0 record on the week including sweeps of BIG EAST opponents Villanova and Rutgers. The sophomore notched her place in the UConn record book and broke the single season home run record and now stands with 11 for 2007.

She hit four home runs in two days, including two in one game against Rutgers. The second blast in game one against the Scarlet Knights broke the single season home run and she then tacked on another in game two of the doubleheader. Truax finished with a batting average of .400 for the week and .426 in BIG EAST play. Her slugging percentage was an astounding 1.200 while adding eight RBI off six hits and scoring eight runs.

Defensively, the centerfielder posted a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000 with eight putouts.

Truax and the rest of the Huskies are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a single game at Boston College at 3:30 p.m.
