STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team looks to turn things around in American Athletic Conference play when it travels to face UCF in a three-game set at the UCF Softball Complex this weekend in Orlando, Fla.
The Huskies (15-26, 1-10 American) play the Knights on Friday at 5:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at noon, as they attempt to snap their current four-game losing skid. All games will be available on live stats and streamed on UCFKnights.TV for paid subscribers.
Tuesday’s scheduled non-conference game at UMass was cancelled due to rain, giving UConn the full week to prepare for the Knights. The Huskies were swept by Tulsa this past weekend at the Burrill Family Field.
Junior Emma Stanley earned a place on the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll on Monday for her .357 batting average over the past five games. She is hitting .289 this season at the dish, second-best on the team.
Four players have recorded double-digit RBI through the first 41 games, including redshirt senior Valerie Sadowl and her team-high 17. Freshman Carli Cutler leads the Huskies in batting average (.325) and hits (37).
UConn’s pitching staff has a combined 3.65 ERA, with sophomore Jill Stockley and freshman Katie Koshes making up the front part of the rotation. The duo has combined to throw 178.2 innings, 68-percent of the team’s innings this season (262.2).
UCF holds a 12-1 edge in the all-time series with UConn, with the only Huskies’ win coming on March 2, 2013 in the UCF Spring Fling Tournament.
OPPONENT QUICK HITS
UCF (23-20, 7-5 American) has won each of its past three conference series, taking two out of three games against ECU, Memphis and USF. Overall, the Knights have won four of six games, recently falling to No. 1 Florida last Wednesday.
Linnea Goodman is hitting .379 this season, the highest among all four of UCF’s batters averaging over .300 this season. Cassady Brewer is the leading run-producer with 21 RBI.
Alea White is 16-12 in a team-high 30 appearances in the circle this season for the Knights, posting a team-best 3.48 ERA. UCF’s combined ERA of 3.83 is the second-highest in the conference.
The Knights eliminated the Huskies in the first round of the AAC Tournament last season in Tulsa, Okla. by a 3-2 final.
