STORRS, Conn. - Connecticut Softball will do its part in the fight against breast cancer this weekend when the Huskies host the annual StrikeOut Cancer game on Saturday, May 7 at 1 p.m. Fans can take part in an auction featuring UConn apparel and autographed memorabilia. All proceeds will directly benefit the American Cancer Society.
UConn (19-27, 6-12 BIG EAST) will host No. 21/25 Notre Dame (41-8, 16-1 BIG EAST) in a double-header on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
The Huskies will hold the annual "Strikeout Cancer Silent Auction" during the doubleheader. Along with UConn Softball T-shirts for sale, the auction will include several UConn items such as apparel and autographed items (Football autographed by new Head Coach Paul Pasqualoni, Basketball autographed by the 2011 NCAA National Champion Men's Basketball team, a basketball autographed by the 2011 Women's team, and others). The auction winners will be announced in the middle of the second game.
Cash and check will be the only acceptable method of payment for the "Strikeout Cancer Silent Auction".
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) started the StrikeOut Cancer program over 10 years ago and has since raised thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer. In addition to fundraised dollars, this initiative has provided a platform to raise awareness for breast cancer as well as support for women's cancer research

UConn will also honor the two seniors this weekend before the final regular season home game against Notre Dame on Sunday, May 8 at Noon. UConn will celebrate the careers and contributions of Julianne Towers (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) and Kathleen Brenneman (Cheshire, Conn.) prior to the first pitch on Sunday.
