Softball To Face Notre Dame in First Round of BIG EAST Tournament

STORRS, Conn. (May 6, 2007) - The University of Connecticut softball team has earned a No. 5 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and will face off against No. 4 seed Notre Dame in the first round on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Belleville Softball Complex in South Bend, Ind.

The Huskies (22-20, 10-9 BIG EAST) are making their first appearance at the tournament since 2001 with UConn taking home the Championship that year.

Notre Dame is the defending 2006 BIG EAST Champion and ended the regular season with a 29-21 record and 13-7 in the conference.

The Huskies and the Fighting Irish did not face off this season as the originally scheduled meeting for Sunday, April 15 was cancelled due to inclement weather.

DePaul earned the No. 1 seed after sweeping the BIG EAST for a perfect 20-0 record.

The winner of the 2007 BIG EAST Softball Championship will receive the league’s automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The BIG EAST Championship game will be broadcast live on CSTV at 5:30 on May 12.
