Kim Silva named to All-BIG EAST First Team

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Husky junior third baseman Kim Silva was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and senior designated player Amy DeLuca was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team on Thursday evening at the BIG EAST softball banquet. This marks both athletes first BIG EAST accolades of their careers at UConn.

Silva ended the regular season third on the team with a .303 batting average with 40 hits, 27 runs and 20 RBI. The Cheshire, Conn. native posted a .894 fielding percentage on the season and a .918 fielding percentage in league play committing only seven errors against conference opponents. Against BIG EAST foes, Silva was second on the team with a .354 batting average and owned a team-best .569 slugging percentage. 

“This is a very exciting award for Kim to receive. She really stepped up her play at the end of the season to help us reach the BIG EAST Championship,” stated Head Coach Karen Mullins.

DeLuca was named to the Second Team after guiding the Huskies to a 9-13 mark in league play with a team-high .357 batting average and a .429 slugging percentage against BIG EAST opponents. A native of Bordentown, N.J., DeLuca posted a .277 overall average in her 94 trips to the plate.

“For Amy to come back from a torn ACL and receive conference acknowledgement for her efforts this season is great. Her hard work to rehab and be such a strong force for our team and is a huge tribute to her career at UConn,” Mullins concluded.                                                               



The Huskies will take on the No. 1 seed Louisville (50-3, 20-2 BIG EAST) on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the BIG EAST Championships at Melissa Cook Stadium.
