KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - University of Connecticut junior second base Lisa Girolamo (Ashby, Mass.) headlined the Huskies' award winners at the 2001 BIG EAST Conference Softball Awards Banquet held Thursday night at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

In 20 conference games this season, Girolamo batted .328 with four doubles, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored. She also held a .988 fielding percentage to help the Huskies to a 14-6 BIG EAST regular season record. This is the second time Girolamo has received league honors in her career, after being honored on the All-BIG EAST Second Team as a sophomore in 2000.

Senior shortstop Jessica Yanosy (Milford, Conn.), senior third base Mandy Simjian (Wallingford, Conn.), senior designated player Megan Biddle (Bear, Del.) and sophomore left fielder Nicole Dubovik (Coral Springs, Fla.) were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Yanosy is a three-time All-BIG EAST award winner (1999, 2000, 2001), while Biddle is a two-time honoree (1999, 2001).

Voting was based on selections made by the 11- league head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players. No. 8 nationally- ranked Notre Dame swept the annual awards, taking Coaching Staff of the Year, Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors.
