STORRS, Conn.- The UConn softball team had two standouts tabbed to the 2013 All-BIG EAST Second Team as seniors Kim Silva and Marissa Guches earned a spot on the all-conference squad. The Huskies concluded the 2013 campaign with a 25-24 overall record and 8-14 mark in BIG EAST play.
Guches was a solid performer for the Huskies as she earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the designated player position. As Connecticut’s DP, Guches posted a team-best .386 batting average with team-highs in hits (56), doubles (14) and RBI (37).
Silva, a 2012 All-BIG EAST First Team selection, was named to the 2013 All-BIG EAST Second Team following a standout senior campaign for the Huskies. The Cheshire, Conn. native moved from leading the infield her junior season to anchoring the outfield her senior season as she become UConn’s center fielder in 2013. She finished the 2013 season second on the team with a .367 batting average with 54 hits and team-highs of seven homers and 34 runs scored.
The duo not only guided the Huskies overall but also in league action where Guches held a .433 batting average and Silva a .382 batting average.
