STORRS, Conn. – The 2014 University of Connecticut softball team is preparing for another exciting season, looking to compete in the inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference. With 12 returning letterwinners, three incoming freshman and a junior transfer, the Husky team is determined to make a run in the American this spring. Head coach Karen Mullins return to anchor the Huskies as the team gets ready for a packed fall schedule.
“We are really excited with our diverse group of talented athletes,” said Mullins. “We are working hard in preparation for the inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference.”
Connecticut opens up the fall slate on Saturday, September 21, taking on Providence College at 11:00 a.m. before a 3:30 p.m. contest with Quinnipiac. The following day, the Huskies will take on Southern Connecticut State University at noon. The last two weekends of fall ball include games against Boston College, Bryant and finishes up with a three game set against the University of Maine.
The Huskies will celebrate the careers of the recently graduated seniors (Kim Silva, Kiki Saveriano, Jessica McDermott, Marissa Guches and Brittany Duclos) and the 2013 UConn softball team at their banquet on October 13. Combined, the departed seniors played in 200 games last year, starting in 185.
