STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team has received six national letters of intent, rounding out the Class of 2021 as announced by head coach Jen McIntyre and her staff on Thursday morning.
The six incoming players for the 2017-18 season come from as far as Kansas and Texas, but as close as Madison, Conn. This group of newcomers will join the eight freshmen who are on the 2017 UConn roster, making for a youthful look in the years to come.
Sam Barnett (Liberty Hill, Texas), Maura Glatczak (Wichita, Kan.), Reese Guevarra (New City, N.Y.), Briana Marcelino (Easton, Conn.), Marybeth Olson (Chanhassen, Minn.) and Hollis Wivell (Madison, Conn.) make up the six-player class for next season.
“I am thrilled to announce the six student-athletes that will join our program as the class of 2021,” said McIntyre, now in her third season. “This is another large class for us that has a little bit of everything, from speed and power to a great mound presence.”
“Whenever we head out recruiting, we are looking for those student-athletes that we feel are going to compete in the classroom, on the field, and represent the University of Connecticut and our softball program with the highest integrity,” said McIntyre.
With the mix of regional homegrown talent and teammates from the Midwest and Southwest areas of the country, McIntyre is excited to see each player compete in the coming years.
“I am eager to see all of these young women become an integral part of the future of our program,” said McIntyre.
Stay tuned for information on each signee over the week of Thanksgiving break, as the Huskies welcome six more players into the UConn softball program.
