Men's And Women's Swimming And Diving Fall To Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both defeated by Yale on Saturday as the men lost by a 176-124 count while the women lost 202-98. The meets were the final dual meets of the season for the Huskies as the men are 5-2 and the women are 5-1.

Both teams had some impressive performers on the day. Junior Tomasz Sobek (Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland) had victories in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.56 seconds and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:07.28. Freshman Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.27 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 46.37 seconds.

Senior Stephen Ferreira (Madison, Conn.) won both diving events with a 325.72 in the one-meter diving and a 364.84 in the three-meters.

Junior Alex Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Que.) won the 100-yard backstroke in 50.45 seconds.

On the women's side, freshman Danielle Cecco (Garden Grove, Calif.) won the one-meter diving with 273.37 points and the three-meters with 284.02. Freshman Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:14.76.

UConn now takes part in the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships in Pittsburgh with the diving taking part next weekend (Feb. 12-14) and the swimming the following weekend (Feb. 17-20).
