STORRS, Conn. - Freshman Rachel Burke (Wayne, Ill.) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.54 while freshman Marston Fries (Mission Hills, Kansas) won the 200-yard IM in 2:13.13 on Saturday as the University of Connecticut women's swimming team played host to the UConn Open. The meet was a non-team scoring event.
Second place finishers for the Huskies were: junior Kati Kyle (Lithia, Fla.) in the 100-backstroke in 59.29 seconds; senior Katie Dobler (Pittsford, N.Y.) in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:04.78; freshman Kennedy Meier (Winnipeg, Man.) in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.59; senior Isabelle Nat (Barrie, Ont.) in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.96 seconds; freshman Laura Hyland (Southport, England) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.97; freshman Hannah Perna (Hillsborough, N.J.) in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.32; senior Kate O'Leary (Brookfield, Conn.) in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.59 seconds; sophomore Sharon Scott (Shelton, Conn.) in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.70; and sophomore Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.) in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.38 seconds.
UConn swimming and diving returns to action on February 27-March 2 when it travels to the BIG EAST Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.
