More School Records Fall At BIG EAST Swimming

Chinyere Pigot earned All-BIG EAST honors on Thursday in the 50-yard freestyle.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Connecticut women's swimming and diving team is in fourth place of 11 teams and the men's team is in fifth place of 10 teams after the second day of the BIG EAST Championships on Thursday. Notre Dame leads the men's team standings with 406 points while Louisville is second and Pittsburgh is third. Louisville leads the women's team standings followed by Notre Dame and West Virginia. The championships run through Saturday.

UConn junior Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) finished in fourth place in the B Final of the 50-yard freestyle and school record time of 20.37 seconds in the preliminaries.

UConn freshman Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.) finished in a tie for third-place in the 50-yard freestyle in a school-record time of 23.19 seconds to earn All-BIG EAST Conference honors. Junior Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) finished in fifth place in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:45.63. That time was a new school record and also broke the record in the preliminaries with a time of 4:48.86.

The entire UConn team enjoyed an outstanding day as 24 personal bests were recorded.
